House Bill 1508
As of September 1, 2017, HB 1508 requires TCEQ approved training providers such as TRWA that provide educational programs (training) which prepare an individual for issuance of an initial occupational license, to notify each enrollee of the following:
- the potential ineligibility of an individual who has been convicted of an offense for issuance of an occupational license on completion of the educational program;
- the current guidelines issued under Texas Occupation's Code, Section 53.025 by any licensing authority that may issue an occupational license to an individual who completes the educational program ( TCEQ Regulatory Guidance document RG-521 );
- any other state or local restriction or guideline used by a licensing authority to determine the eligibility of an individual who has been convicted of an offense for an occupational license issued by the licensing authority (none applicable to TCEQ); and
- the right to request a criminal history evaluation under Section 53.102.
TRWA encourages you to review the guidelines that outline the possible consequences of having a criminal conviction on your ability to obtain and hold an occupational license, as well as your responsibilities in this regard, prior to registering for a class. You can click on the link above to review.
TRWA encourages individuals who believe that they may be ineligible to obtain an initial license due to a conviction or deferred adjudication to request an evaluation of their criminal conviction history by TCEQ prior to applying for the license.
